| Oil Spill Response: Volunteer Orientation |
Agency: Catholic Charities
Description:
Catholic Charities is currently in need of volunteers to help us outreach to families who work in fishing-related industries affected by the oil spill. All volunteers must initially attend an Oil Spill/ Disaster Relief Volunteer Orientation. After volunteers attend an orientation, they will be able to volunteer at the Catholic Charities Community Centers in St. Bernard, New Orleans East, Lafitte, or Port Sulphur. Volunteers will primarily be helping to distribute food. Potentially volunteers should attend orientation a week to two weeks before they hope on volunteering. St. Bernard needs volunteers on Tuesdays from 9:00am-2:00pm. New Orleans East needs volunteers Monday-Friday from 9:00am-4:00pm who are either bilingual or interpreters of Vietnamese. Lafitte needs volunteers on Mondays from 8:30am-3:00pm. Port Sulphur needs volunteers Thursdays and Fridays from 8:30am-3:00pm. Volunteers must be 18 or older and must have their own transportation. Volunteers must also be willing to travel to locations that are 45-75 minutes away. If appropriate forms are completed, mileage will be reimbursed. This is the only oil spill-related volunteer opportunity that we currently have available. If you have any questions or concerns, please, call 504-310-6978 or email volunteer@archdiocese-no.org.
