Opportunities for Visiting Volunteers Back To Main

Volunteer and Stay with Hands On

HandsOn New Orleans provides housing for volunteers to help in the Greater New Orleans area at an affordable cost. As volunteers continue to come to the Gulf Coast to help in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita our organizations have joined forces to provide a full volunteer experience. We recently transitioned to a new volunteer house
in Mid City that can house up to 40 volunteers at a time. We have
immediate availability through the middle of December.

What You Receive

We ask that volunteers pay $25 per day which allows HandsOn New Orleans to provide three meals a day, (Breakfast: cold and / or hot cereal, bagels and toast; Lunch: pack a sandwich, bag of chips and fruit; Dinner: a hot meal), internet access, and the cost of tools and equipment for the projects. The cost also ensures sustainability for Hands On New Orleans' housing site, as we plan to serve New Orleans for many years to come.

The Digs

Our facility is communal living, so bathrooms, showers, and dining areas are shared. There is computer access and high-speed wireless available for those who bring their laptops. All volunteers sleep in bunk beds that are divided by gender and arranged dormitory style. As a community, we ask that volunteers work together to maintain the facility by setting up breakfast, cooking evening dinners, and helping keep the facility clean.

The Scene

Every evening we have a community meeting which allows for our volunteers to share and report on their experience that day.
